St. Helena School Home and School Association is dedicated to serving our faculty, administration, school children, and community.  The Association’s goals focus on spiritual, educational, community service, and financial strength. The Home & School Association Board is comprised of school parents and the principal, Sister Cathe.  This Association is a volunteer organization and the Board members serve a two year term.  Meetings are held 5 times a year to review and organize activities and plan for future events.  The Home and School Board is an advisory board and not a decision making board.  Volunteers are requested to sign-up every two years, and a notice is sent home through the brown envelopes requesting new volunteers at that time.  The only requirement to serve on the board is to return the request form by the designated deadline. The next opportunity to sign-up for the Board will be in the Spring of 2010.  School families are asked to contribute $15.00 per school year for Home & School dues.

Spiritual Events:

The Board sponsors several spiritual events throughout the year for our school families.  In November of each year, we celebrate the Simple Supper.  This is scheduled during the week of Thanksgiving. The Liturgy and Simple Supper are beautiful opportunities for us to reflect on our own lives and on the lives of those around us. We offer two retreat mornings, one in the fall and one in the spring, for moms who would like to focus on their spiritual journey.

Educational Events:

In the beginning of each school year, the Board organizes the New Parents’ Reception and Back to School Night.  The New Parents’ Reception helps to introduce our new families to each other and to welcome them to St. Helena.  Back-to-School Night is an opportunity for parents to meet their children’s teachers and review their daily routine in the classroom.  The Board publishes the Parent Handbook and School Directory.

Community Awareness and Service:

The Board tries to provide opportunities throughout the school year for us to reaffirm our strong sense of community.  During the summer and early months of school, the Board is responsible for organizing and managing the school volunteer program.  This program includes the homeroom teams, teacher aides, computer lab aides, office copiers, brown envelope stuffers, attendance checkers, and a.m. recess monitors.  The school community is fortunate to have many parents volunteer to participate in these duties, and the Board encourages all parents to be involved.

The Board also prepares and serves an appreciation luncheon for the faculty and staff.  In addition to these service-oriented activities, other community awareness events are scheduled throughout the school year.  These events include the Walkathon, Donuts with Dad, Father/Daughter Dance, Simple Supper, the Santa Shop, Home & School Dinner Dance, Family Bingo Night, Muffins with Mom, Mother/Son Phillies Game, and the May Fair. All these events are great opportunities for us to gather together as the St. Helena School Community.

Financial Support:

Some of the Home & School activities generate financial gains which are applied to the needs of the school. Previous activities enabled the Board to purchase Science kits, books and classroom equipment for the school. Home & School also supports various charitable organizations throughout the school year with our activities.

On alternating years it is a dinner/dance and silent/live auction. This year is a Gala. There will be many items for auction, along with dinner and dancing. This is the one Home and School Event that is ADULTS only. Many volunteers are needed to secure items for auction, decorate, and help set up the items.
