Mrs. Woods Kindergarten Class

Welcome to the first week of no homework. (I had to adjust that statement just a tad… no homework if all is completed in school. How’s that for motivation!).

The official countdown has begun but there are still exciting times ahead.  This week we are looking forward to two great events..our Fathers’ celebration and Mayfair.

Dads are asked to meet us in the cafeteria at 11:00 on Tuesday.  We truly appreciate all their efforts to attend and promise we will not keep them longer than one hour. (If someone does not have a dad available, don’t worry, we’ll make sure no one is overlooked.)

Mayfair is scheduled for Friday, rain or shine. To all our new families, Mayfair is a day dedicated to having fun.  The children get an opportunity to have their faces painted, nails polished, hair done, play games, eat snacks and have an outdoor picnic. Then the afternoon is packed with another form of surprise in the rec center. Mayfair money and lunch orders for this exciting day are due. If you did not order a special lunch, please pack one.  This is a picnic and there will be no “counter” available. Also it is a dress down day.

Lines for our final ceremony will be coming home soon. The children already know their poems and songs and are in fine tune.

There are no formal report cards given to Kindergarten but there will be mandatory “exit conferences.”  We will have this time to review our year together, talk about possible activities to keep the educational light burning during the summer and to just marvel how much your child has bloomed. These will be held on the days after the closing ceremony.  A notice will come home asking for a day and time of your preference.  If you intend to go on vacation immediately after Kindergarten closes, please let me know so that I can see you before then.

Folders are still being sent home daily, although they may not be as “jammed packed” as usual.  We are working on many packets of activities at one time.

In religion, the focus will be on the feast of Pentecost and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Subtraction is the key word around here.  It may be difficult but practice makes perfect.

In ILA, we will be doing blends or “cluster sounds”.  We are doing tons of writing and reading many stories together.

Speaking of stories… our guest-reader program is nearing an end.  Sad to say, there have been several “no-shows” but we truly understand.  If you were not able to come visit us and would like a final opportunity to share a story with us, please send me an email and tell me when you are available. (That goes for grandparents, special people or siblings away at school.)

That’s about it.  Start praying for good weather on Mayfair Day.

Have a great week!
