Penguins, polar bears, pandas and perhaps the piranhas are upset with the peculiar weather patterns. Perfect enough for the playful platypus but we’re looking forward to snow and a pudgy visitor with plenty of presents. So party with us as we prance through Pp week.
There will be no new sight words or homework this week. There are too many distractions and exciting events happening.
Our Australian fact focuses on the platypus, only indigenous to Australia and one of three mammals in the world who lays eggs. This peculiar looking animal has a beaver-like tail and a duck-like bill.
Our Aussie term is “piker” – a bore or “party pooper”.
The masterpiece is Persistence of Time by Salvador Dali. This unusual painting should lead to much discussion as I show them other examples of this surrealistic artist’s work.
This week we will learn how other people celebrate this holiday season, as well as celebrating it ourselves. We will have a whole school liturgy on Tuesday at 9 am and a visit from Santa at 1:00.
Many thanks to Mrs. McVeigh, all her elves, and Santa for helping us out.
Thursday will be our “pajama party”. (What better way to celebrate Pp week than with potato chips, popcorn and Peter Pan!) Children are to come to school wearing pajamas under their gym uniform. They may bring slippers, if they wish, and a favorite stuffed animal.
Friday will be our final day together for this calendar year. The teachers will have an in-service on Monday but you can start the holiday earlier.
There is so much to look forward to next year. We will be having an important meeting about the Kindergarten play as soon as we return. This performance will be held during Catholic Schools Week and there’s lots of work to be done.
I would like to take this time to wish you all a blessed Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year. Be assured you will be in my thoughts and prayers as I celebrate this time with my family.
