Saint Helena Library

Mrs. Nancy Manno, Librarian

WELCOME BACK TO A NEW YEAR

IN LIBRARY!

All the students from Kindergarten through Eighth grade attend classes on a weekly basis. We emphasize the enjoyment of reading and develop library and research skills.

Kindergarten- Second grade have story time, which is always exciting. They start to learn fiction vs. non-fiction, parts of a book, comprehension and listening skills, and Caldecott and Newbery awards.

Third grade- Eighth grade learn to research by using reference materials. They use dictionaries, thesauri, atlas', and the internet. They learn about the "Dewey Decimal System," how it was devised by Mr. Melvil Dewey to organize the non-fiction books in categories in the library.

Creativity is emphasized in their research.

I am always available to assist the children in their checking out a book, and researching.

We are going to have a Great year in Library!

Dear Parents:

You are invited to attend a special event at our school...

The SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR!!

Visiting the book fair will be like visiting a bookstore just for children. You and your child will find the newest and best books available in children’s literature.

Your child will receive a copy of the Scholastic

book fair book list. It will highlight many of the books featured at the fair ... all of which have been carefully selected by reputable educators and editors.

We ask you to support this event by helping your child select books to read. A child's life can be positively influenced by exposure to quality books.

In addition all purchases will benefit our school by

generating funds to buy new books for our library. We

look forward to seeing you at the Scholastic book Fair on February 13- February 17, from 8:30 a.m.1:40 p.m. We also will have one night open to shop, on Wednesday, February 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Any parent attending this night may enter their child’s name in a drawing for a FREE book of their choice. Their teacher will also win a FREE book! (Up to a $10.00 Value). We will pick their name that night and announce the winner in school.

Again this year we will also have the Teacher’s Wish Lists, you may buy your child’s teacher a book for her classroom! This makes a nice gift!

I will need some volunteers to help with the book fair.

If you can donate any time to help in this event please

let me know. Please mark the day, and time you can help,

with your name and telephone number, return to my attention, or e-mail me: nmanno@sainthelenaschool.org. Please make all checks payable to St. Helena’s School.

BIRTHDAY BOOKS

Your School Library is pleased to announce "BIRTHDAY BOOKS!"

Birthday books are a wonderful way to add new books to our Library collection

and recognize our children in the process. Each Birthday Book given is a great source

of excitement and pride for the child whose name and birth date are inscribed inside,

and interest in the book becomes contagious.

If you would like to contribute a book in honor of your child, please purchase

a hardback book of their liking and send it to my attention.  The Birthday Books

will be displayed in a special section of the library.

You may also donate a book for any other relative's birthday, mom, dad,

grandma, grandpa etc. If you have any questions please contact me @ 610-279-3345,

or nmanno@sainthelenaschool.org.
