ART EXPRESS

2011-2012

Art Express is an in-class, volunteer-run art program designed to teach age-appropriate techniques and stimulate student appreciation for art. Each student is encouraged to express his/her self through these art projects and we focus on technique and learning vs. finished product.  Each Grade Curriculum includes lessons plans that any volunteer should be able to teach.

What Kinds of Projects Are Done?

Depending on grade level, projects include both 2 and 3 dimensional design.  Techniques such as drawing, painting, cutting, tracing, pasting, printmaking and sculpting are included.  Media such as pencil, pen, ink, pastels, crayon, markers, acrylics, watercolors, clay, paper and found objects are integrated. Concepts such as light, shadow, contrast, tone, depth, color wheel, perspective, textures, and proportions are addressed in age-appropriate lessons.

How Can Parents See the Work?

After each session, the work is hung in the cafeteria or outside of the art room.  After that, the work is stored and brought out for the Spring Arts Show.  At the end of the year, the children will bring home their "portfolios" for you to enjoy.  We will also feature the work on this page so come back often!

Lesson Plans: Any volunteer should be able to run the lessons included in links below.  A laptop and projector are available in the art room to show web resources, photos and step by step lessons.

ART GOES TO SCHOOL

The Art Goes to School Program involves volunteers going into every classroom only 4 mornings a year to discuss reproductions of artworks from a rotating portfolio.  Reference materials about each artist & artwork are provided and NO ART EXPERIENCE is required!  Four pre-scheduled Fridays 8:30am to 12:15. Please contact Beth Nikelski.

We invite anyone to come and observe our AGTS program - we're always looking for volunteers - the more the merrier!
