Saint Helena School Robotics took home First Place in the Admiral’s Class at the Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch Challenge!!

The SHS Robotics Team competed in the Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch Challenge at the Salvation Army Kroc Center on March 21st. The goal of SeaPerch is to increase student interest in robotics, science, mathematics, engineering and technology and to introduce students to naval engineering. The competition involves a technical design report, and presentation to display the team’s engineering design process. The pool competition includes a mission and obstacle course.

This was the first year the SHS Robotics Team competed in the Admiral’s Class, which is an open-build category, meaning teams can modify their underwater SeaPerch robot without a spending cap. SHS Robotics took the challenge head on and were outstanding in all areas. The team took home three trophies:

–          2nd place for their Technical Design Report (out of all 22 Captain and Admiral teams). This measures a team’s ability to document the scientific process in a meaningful and organized manner.

–          1st place in the Admiral’s class for vehicle performance. This is determined by a combined score of both pool rounds.

–          1st place overall AND the single Admiral Class bid to the International SeaPerch Challenge at the University of Maryland at the end of May!!!

This is the 3rd time in 4 years St. Helena is representing the area at the International Competition!

The students on the team are:

Zoe L., Michael I., Tommy M., Andrew D., Roman C., Brooklynn B., Alex T., Parker F., Alyssa T., Crosley R., Bianca S., and Noell G.

Coaches / Mentors – Greg Mann, Paul Laub and Kristin Ford.
