Broad Agenda for CATHOLIC SCHOOL’S WEEK

Sunday, January 29

*Opening Liturgy – All Are Welcome – 11:00

Monday, January 3

*Students will have a service day beginning at 8:30 and ending at noon. Times and places have been distributed.

On Monday, of Catholic Schools Week, we will have a Service Day involving pre K through Grade 8 – the following describes the day and will describe what each grade will be doing …

The mission of community Day of Service is "to turn community concerns into volunteer service and ongoing citizen action, this day and beyond".  This is directly aligned with our own SHS mission. Inspired by the vision of the Sisters of Mercy, students are called to service and leadership in our global community.  Therefore, the students of SHS will join together on January 30 for a day of service.  SHS students will be working to help meet the needs of several organizations.

Mercy Hospice:  Mercy Hospice is a shelter for homeless women and children administered by Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  Mercy Hospice provides emergency shelter, recovery housing, and day programs to women and children in need.  Located at 13th and Pine Streets

Grace Bean Soup Kitchen:  The soup kitchen, located in Norristown feeds 200 homeless individuals 2 days per week.

Meals on Wheels Montco SAAC Ambler: Organization distributes meals to shut in elders daily.  At times these are the only meals these individuals will receive on any given day.

Lamb Foundation: The Lamb Foundation provides affordable housing and support services to senior citizens and adult individuals with mental, physical, and developmental disabilities that would otherwise be homeless.

Many Hands means light work.

We are looking for several volunteers to oversee the students’ service projects from 8:00am to 11:45am.  Kindergarten, First and Second Grade will be working in their classrooms while Grades 3 through 8 will be working in shifts in the cafeteria.  We will also need a few people to deliver items to various organizations in the afternoon.
