Some SHS students had a visit from two very special guests recently. Fifth grader Lizzie presented a report to her class for her “genius hour” on Diabetic Alert Dogs (DADs). These highly-trained service dogs can smell the chemical changes in a type 1 diabetic’s saliva and alert when low and high blood sugar is detected.
Maggie and her service dog Filly visited St. Helena on Friday March 15 to educate the students and answer questions. During their time there, Filly alerted to a high blood sugar!
After answering questions Filly got a break from her job and the kids were able to pet her. They all loved that!
